The Beaver Trap Trail has existed since 2003. It started as a middle-distance race with an overnight stay in a tent up on the Saxvattnet nature reserve. The competition is colloquially known as BTT. The name comes from the fact that the tracks mostly follow the old Beaver hunting trail from Norråker north towards Borgafjäll.
The middle distance competition has gone under the name BTT Classic, in 2024 we have chosen to pause this competition class to create space for the BTT 170 8-team and nordic (pulka) 4-team.
In 2006, a slightly longer variant of 100 km in one sweep was introduced. BTT100.
From 2015, there have been real long-distance competitions with the BTT350. A 350 km long race that goes from Norråker over Borgafjäll and around the mountains via Saxnäs and Gitsfjäll. Sweden’s longest and toughest long-distance race. Variants of this are available for 8-span of 25 miles (BTT250) and 8-span of 170 km (BTT170)
In 2018, Sweden’s first long-distance competition for juniors was introduced when the Swedish Sled Dog Sports Association opened up the possibility. BTT170 runs from Norråker via Saxvattnet to Borgafjäll and back.
During the years 2015-2017, sprint and middle distance competitions were also held on the permanent tracks in the village of Norråker. The event was called Bäver Open.
BTT’s motto:
“A competition anchored in Norråker, which takes you deep into the wilderness with the support of a well-functioning organization. We provide the opportunity for beginners as well as experienced ones to develop themselves and their dogs.”
